Designed by Thayer Architects of New Castle, construction of the building
began in July of 1905 and was completed in early 1906. The Oddfellows
held their first meeting in the third floor lodge in April 1906. The four-
story structure of Italianate design has an exterior consisting of high quality
brick, terra cotta, and stone masonry. This prominent Butler building was
the long standing home of John Honse Furniture and the Independent
Order of Oddfellows, who had their Banquet Hall on the 3rd floor. It is
this space that has been carefully returned to a functioning Banquet Hall.
The building was purchased in 2004 by Joseph L. and Jacquelyn P. Gray
for renovation. The first, second, third and fourth floors have been
renovated. An elevator has been installed, and the mechanics have been
updated to meet today’s building code.
